The San Mateo County Employees’ Retirement Association (SamCERA)
is a defined benefit pension plan providing retirement,
disability and death benefits for its eligible members and
SamCERA has several plans. SamCERA places new members in the
applicable plan based upon hire date and job classification
(safety or general).
If you are active in law enforcement, the Office of the Sheriff,
or a probation officer with the Probation Department,
you are classified as a “Safety Member.” All other members
are classified as “General Members.”
Permanent employees hired on or after January 1, 2013, will most
likely be placed in General Plan 7 or Safety Plan 7.
If you are coming from another California public agency, please
contact SamCERA and download the “Reciprocity Request Form” from
the Member Forms page. This may make
you eligible to be placed in a different plan.
