2019 July Board Meeting

At its meeting on July 16, 2019, the Board of Retirement approved a commitment of $30 million to Harrison Street Core Property Fund, L.P., as part of SamCERA’s real estate portfolio.

No further board action was taken related to SamCERA’s investment commitments or hires.

More information on SamCERA’s commitments may be available in SamCERA’s Board of Retirement meeting minutes. Minutes for a given Board meeting are usually approved at the next regular meeting, and will be posted shortly thereafter.

Celebrating 75 Years!
On July 9, 2019, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors presented SamCERA with a resolution in recognition of our 75th anniversary.

SamCERA was founded on July 1, 1944 by the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, and for the past 75 years, we have remained dedicated to serve as loyal fiduciary for our members and as prudent administrator of the retirement system.

2019 June Board Meeting

At its meeting on June 4, 2019, the Board of Retirement approved a re-up commitment of $20 million to Great Hill Equity Partners VII, LP, as part of SamCERA’s private equity portfolio.

The Board also approved a commitment of $10 million to Altas Partners Holdings II, LP, as part of SamCERA’s private equity portfolio. 

Lastly, the Board of Retirement approved a re-up commitment of $35 million to BlackRock Direct Lending Fund IX, LLC, as part of SamCERA’s opportunistic credit portfolio within fixed income.

At its meeting on March 26, 2019, the Board of Retirement authorized the CEO to execute an agreement with Brown Armstrong for auditing services.

TO ELECT THREE MEMBERS TO THE BOARD OF RETIREMENT

Notice is hereby given that one GENERAL MEMBER is to be elected to fill the third position, and one RETIRED MEMBER is to be elected to fill the eighth position on SamCERA’s Board of Retirement. An ALTERNATE RETIRED MEMBER will also be elected.

At its meeting on February 26, 2019, the Board of Retirement approved a $25 million capital commitment to Taurus Mining Finance Fund II, L.P., as part of SamCERA’s Natural Resources portfolio within Private Real Assets.

2018 December Board Meeting

At its meeting on December 4, 2018, the Board of Retirement approved a $30 million capital commitment to EQT Infrastructure IV, L.P., as part of SamCERA’s private real assets portfolio.  The Board also approved a $40 million capital commitment to the PIMCO Private Income Fund within the opportunistic credit sub-asset class within the fixed income portfolio.

No further board action was taken related to SamCERA’s investment commitments or hires.

2018 October Board Meeting

At its meeting on October 30, 2018, the Board of Retirement approved to hire Acadian Asset Management and PanAgora Asset Management for a low volatility equity mandate with an initial investment of 3% of plan assets (approximately $125-135 million) to each manager for a total allocation of 6% of plan assets (approximately $250-$270 million in aggregate).

2018 August Board Meeting

At its meeting on August 28, 2018, the Board of Retirement approved a $20 million capital commitment to ABRY Advanced Securities Fund IV, L.P., as part of SamCERA’s private equity portfolio.

The Board of Retirement also approved the implementation of a passive 50% developed market currency hedge utilizing SamCERA’s current cash overlay manager, Parametric, and allocating in 10% quarterly tranches.

At the meeting on July 24, 2018, staff notified the Board that the Cushing MLP Alpha Total Return was selected for its MLP strategy, in accordance with the Board’s direction, and that the $80 million funding will be sourced 50% from TIPS and 50% from liquid real assets.
